Welcome to my World of Letters

'Hearty Welcome to my little world of Letters where I'm spontaneously spilled over in my soliloquies. The thoughts and feelings, expressed over here, are solely mine and they have nothing to do with my profession.'

Should Human Cloning be allowed?

Hot debates over the human cloning have been taking place after the successful cloning of Scottish sheep. The supporters of human cloning believe that it has not only opened the possibility of desired baby but also has paved the ways to the remedy of dangerous and incurables diseases. However, the consequences seem more terrible and horrible than they appear on surface level fantastically. In fact, it is a foolish idea of misusing science and technology. Human cloning shouldn’t be allowed because of ethical, social and human uniqueness prospective.

Some people claim that human cloning is good news but it questions the human ethic and values. Cloning is just like a reproductive technology closer to Xerox machine. It’s a process of making babies rather than giving births to babies. One can choose the traits in baby but they don’t have the answers what happens if the malformed baby is born. As we have experienced while making photocopies of a paper, it is not guarantee all the time technology gives cent percent result. In this case, is it possible to dump the undesired babies like an unwanted paper? At the same time, it is narcissism to have one prototype baby. Therefore, it is against human values and beliefs.

Likewise, human cloning produces similar types of babies from the gene of a person but that will ultimately invites social problems. It is possible now to have many people having similar biological appearances which will definitely increase the crime in the society. When people think similarly, perform the work similarly, without having opposing views, it brings more problems in the society. Progress and prosperity may be questioned as there will be homogeneity in thinking pattern of cloned people in the society.

Some people might claim that we can choose the desired traits to have perfect baby and can get rid of incurable diseases but it brings much more problems. In fact, nature has maintained the balance between the sex of babies and traits of the babies. If people started choosing their traits, there would be mess in the nature. Who will control the numbers and traits of the babies? At present, every person is unique, biologically and potentially.  The temptation of human cloning will make us lose our human uniqueness.

In conclusion, though it is possible to replicate ourselves in the science lab through cloning, we should not attempt this foolish idea as it invites many problems rather than happiness. As  it raises the questions on our ethical behavior, unique identity, inviting many problems, it is wise to ban human cloning. It is just like opening a Pandora’s Box and it is better to be satisfied with what we have now.
